Greetings from the Mayor
Mayor Ron McDermott

On behalf of the Town of Essex I would like to welcome you to Essex, Ontario – an amalgamated community that stretches from the “Hub” at Essex, through prime agricultural land, to the shores of Lake Erie at Colchester Village.

Essex is home to many of Essex County's cultural gems – the Historic Essex Railway Station, the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village, the Essex County Steam and Gas Engine Museum, and John R. Park Homestead – and we're within easy driving distance of many more – Kingsville Historical Park, Point Pelee National Park, and Fort Malden National Historic Site, to name just a few.

We’re also the little town with an explosive history! Take a tour of the Essex Railway Station and learn about the explosion of 1907 that killed two trainmen and made news headlines around the world. Or stop by the 115-year-old Essex Free Press and read about the natural gas explosion that rocked the town on February 14, 1980. These two milestones in our history serve to remind us just how resilient we can be in the face of disaster. Despite serious setbacks, we are always looking for ways to build a better community!

Yes, we're steeped in history, but we're also home to half of Essex County's wineries. The word “vintage” has more than one meaning in Essex! Take a ride along the Lake Erie North Shore Wine Route and discover our world-class wines. Why not take a private tour and tasting or hop on a trolley excursion and let them be your guide. Whether it’s a day away or a weekend getaway, Essex County's wine country will not disappoint!

Be sure to explore our shopping districts – both Essex and Harrow beckon! And stop at one of our fantastic restaurants for a good home-cooked meal. The bounty of the county grows right in our backyard and lands on your plate!

The fun doesn't stop there. A wide range of special events and festivals happen throughout the year. Don't miss the Essex Fun Fest and the Harrow Fair – they're two of our signature events! Or, if you'd prefer to take in the natural beauty of our region, stroll through Sadler's Park in Essex, take a jaunt along the Chrysler Greenway, or walk barefoot through the sand at Holiday Beach Conservation Area or Colchester Beach.

No matter what interests you, you’re sure to find the simple pleasures of small town living and hometown hospitality in Essex!
